Tour will take you to the 'mushers' camp to meet your friendly husky team. The dogs bark a welcome but as soon as they are up and running they fall silent.
As you travel, the ‘whoosh’ of the sledge runners and the panting of the ever-eager huskies are the only sounds you hear.
While you slip through the shimmering white landscape, look out for Arctic wildlife and animal footprints in the snow.
Enjoy some hot berry juice around a campfire will provide a welcome break. Enjoy the sparkling beauty of the scene before heading back to town.
The Husky Dog-Sled Safari begins at Koskikatu 1, 96200 Rovaniemi. With your English speaking guide, you will travel to the husky mushers' camp.
At the camp you will meet your enthusiastic, blue-eyed dog team. Huskies are the indefatigable working dogs of the Arctic. Their thick double coat, a coarse outer coat plus wooly undercoat, protects them from even the coldest weather. They can tolerate temperatures of minus 50 to minus 75 degrees below zero.
Huskies love to run. Borad your sled. Sleds for 2 persons will be offered. Your team will take you through the ice-bound forest for an hour. On the way you will stop for a welcome break and enjoy some hot berry juice by an open fire and chat with the head musher about these amazing northern animals.
In the forest, look for animal tracks in the snow Arctic fox, lemming, wolverine and moose – all continue to move around during winter.
After your dog-sled ride you will return to town. Your excursion ends where it began.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
Please be at the starting point at least 45 minutes before the start time to change into your thermal outfit.
