Leave Georgetown and experience Penang's natural landscapes and beautiful gardens. The only one of its kind in Southeast Asia, the sub-tropical landscaped garden also features lush vegetation, shrubs and aromatic plants, each a delight to the senses.
Then move onto the Botanical Gardens, created in 1884 as a nursery for the planting of tropical plants. The Botanic Gardens on Penang are located at the end of Waterfall Road; about 8 kilometres form the Georgetown city centre. You'll be fascinated by the many interesting tropical plants across this 72-acre garden, but do watch out for the free-roaming, long-tailed Macaque monkeys!
At the entrance of the Gardens you will see the Rain Tree also known as the “5 o’clock Tree” because its leaves droop in the evening. The many green houses in the Gardens house a variety of plants. The best is the Orchid House where you will be amazed with the number of dazzling orchids of countless shapes, colours and sizes.
