Overview

What else does one need to say about the Musée d'Orsay, except that it houses the largest collection of Impressionist masterpieces in the world?

An obvious must-see Parisian attraction, the Musée d'Orsay is home to some of the most recognizable paintings in history. Renoir’s Dance at Le moulin de la Galette and Van Gogh’s Starry Night Over the Rhône are the headliners. But, with 24 paintings by Gaugin, 56 by Cézanne, and 86 by Monet, one could argue that no individual work deserves top billing. They’re all masterpieces in their own right!

Musée d'Orsay is home to the most voluminous collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterworks. That fact alone dispels any notion that it plays second fiddle to the Louvre. Musée d'Orsay is more specialized, more focused, and frankly, more beautiful. If you are a lover of Impressionism, you should go to the Louvre, see the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, and then spend the rest of the day here.

We say you must see the Musée d'Orsay!
