  • Overview & Itinerary
    Overview On this explosive volcano adventure. Travel to the Volcanoes National Park which may posses the most fiery personality of any other national park. Beware of Kilauea the world’s most active volcano Coast along the Chain of Craters Road and view the landscape molded by previous volcanoes. Deep craters, burning lava flows, lush tropical rainforests, mountains and coastal areas dot the scenery. Breathe in the steam of the nearby volcanic steam buffs of Kilauea Iki Caldera. Wander through the large Thurston Lava Tube, a cave that has been formed by prior lava flow. Glimpse into the fiery inner-workings of the earth as you hike next to actual lava flows. Finally take a breath of fresh air in the Akatsuka orchid nursery.

    The tour begins at your hotel in Waikiki by mini-coach (55 seats) or minibus (25 seats) An English speaking driver cum guide will take you to the Honolulu Airport.

    Then fly on Hawaiian Airlines to Hilo on the big Island of Hawaii.

    Drive through Hilo, the home of the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company and visit the cascading Rainbow Falls.

    Then travel to Volcanoes National Park and view Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano.

    Coast along the Chain of Craters road and view the natural landscape that has been shaped by volcanoes, a 20-mile journey. You will see craters, lava flows, tropical rain forests, mountains, and coastal areas.

    Next, hike close to actual active lava flows that are often visible in the park. If lava is flowing on the surface or if time permits. (Park rangers will advise if lava is visible and closest viewing area) The walk may be 10 – 45 minutes, one-way, depending on location of flow. Sturdy, covered walking shoes are recommended. Surface lava flow change direction with only a moments notice, so we cannot predict where it will flow at any given time.

    Next view the Kilauea Iki Caldera and see the volcanic steam buffs. Along the 11-mile Crater Rim Drive that circles the Kilauea Iki Caldera.

    Then walk through the Thurston Lava Tube where you can walk through the remnants of a once active volcano.

    Then learn more about the types of lava and rock formations at the Jagger Volcano Museum. Visit the Volcano House Observatory.

    Finally take in the fragrant aromas at the Akatsuka orchid and anthurium nursery in Hilo and if time permits, a possible visit to a Macadamia nut factory (seasonal).

    The tour will conclude with you flying back to Oahu where we will pick you up from Honolulu Airport and then drop you at your hotel.

    You will visit Akaka Falls State Park where they will see two majestic waterfalls and a lush rain forest.

    From 18 May 18 onwards, the lunch stop for all Big Island tours will be at the 'Imiloa Astronomy Center at the Sky Garden Restaurant with scenic views of Hilo. Lunch is on your own expense and you have the option of selecting the Sky Garden's lunch buffet or ordering from the regular menu that offers local favorites and familiar options like sandwiches and salads.

    Revised itineraries are subject to change due to evolving volcanic activity on the Big Island.

    Lava viewing conditions change daily. We do not guarantee the viewing of active lava flow. On some days the best approach involves hiking over rough, uneven, lava surfaces

    The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have

    If Blue Hawaiiain helicopters cancels the helicopter tour for any reason, then you will be refunded and will be welcomed on an extended sightseeing land tour. Viewing of lava is not guaranteed.
