  • Overview & Itinerary
Overview Travel back in time…down ancient Aztec built canals on a traditional boat. As you arrive at the peaceful waters of the Xochimilco Canals, a sense of calmness will set upon you. One of the last traces of the Aztec era, you can enjoy a relaxing, scenic journey through these ancient waters on a traditional pre-Hispanic boat past vibrant floating gardens.

Explore the University City and visit its famous library decorated throughout with the mosaic murals of Juan O’Gorman, see the Olympic Stadium and the residential area of Pedregal se San Angel, built on lava fields.

Tour the colonial district of Coyoacan and enjoy a stroll down Francisco Sosa Street along large, old, rambling houses from the 16th century. You will come across the impressive mansion of the ‘Conquistador’ Hernando Cortes and the Church of Saint John the Baptist boasting of many beautiful paintings and altarpieces.

You will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach from your hotel in Mexico City. Set out on a panoramic tour of the World Trade Center, the Siqueiros Cultural Polyforum, the monumental Mexico Bull Ring and the Insurgentes Theatre with its mosaic murals by artist Diego Riviera.

Further on, proceed to the University City located in Coyoacan borough in the southern part of Mexico City. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the university encloses the Olympic Stadium, the Cultural Centre, an ecological reserve, the Central Library and some museums. Interestingly, the university was built on a bed of solidified lava to replace the scattered buildings in downtown Mexico City.

Continue to the waters of the Xochimilco Canals where you can take a traditional boat cruise down ancient Aztec canals. The place is famous for its extended series of canals on the ancient Lake Xochimilco. Sail on colorful trajineras, a traditional boat between chinampas (floating gardens – an ancient Mesoamerican agriculture) covered with flowers. The shores of Xochimilco Canals are lined with houses and docks, and are a favorite haunt of Mexican families and tourists on the weekends.

Further on, head to the impressive colonial district of Coyoacan and take a walk down the Francisco Sosa Street lined with architectural marvels from the 16th century. Also stop by at the Church of Saint John the Baptist and marvel at its paintings.
