Make your way in Velazquez Statue. Located in: Paseo del Prado, s/n, 28014 Madrid, España, at 09:45 a.m (we always recommend to be 10 minutes earlier)
To build something like the Louvre in Paris, the Prado Museum in Madrid was the brainchild of Queen Isabella of Braganza who wanted to display the richness and magnitude of Spanish art to the world. What resulted in all these years was a collection of 7,600 paintings, 1000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 drawings, in addition to a large number of works of art and historic documents. While picking the best from such a massive collection in a day might be a task, let a guide take you around the museum and show the main works of art.
The expert, English speaking guide will bring the artworks to life as s/he will introduce you to not only the masterpieces but also the masters who created them. You will not waste any time standing in the long entrance queues as our skip the line access will give you more time to admire the artworks. Some of the main highlights of the museum are Velasquez’s Las Meninas, El Greco’s Fable, Goya’s The Countess of Chinchón and Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights among others.
The construction of Museo Nacional del Prado was initiated under the patronage of Charles III in 1785 to initially house the Cabinet of National History. But after its completion, the monarch’s grandson Ferdinand VII encouraged by his wife Queen María Isabel de Braganza decided to open it as the Royal Museum of Paintings and Sculpture. It opened to the public in 1819 to show Spanish art’s prowess over other European schools of art, and became home to artworks belonging to the Spanish royalty. Your guide will have more anecdotes that are fascinating and will share them while taking you around.
Get to know and understand the life and works of the masters and make the most of your time by being shown the true highlights of this vast collection; our guide will ensure you come to love this museum just as much as the locals do!
