The famous Madrid bullring, the Plaza Monuental de las Ventas del Espíritu Santa, is the international center of bullfighting.
On this self-guided audio tour you will discover a place that is symbolic of the heart and soul of bullfighting, where the world’s finest matadors present their artistry and skill.
The bullring is decorated with ceramic tiling as well as 52 plaques, which hold the shields of every province of Spain. During the tour, you will see the key parts of the bullring, including the main entrance, the tendidos, the cellajón, and more, and you will learn about the roles of the audience, the bullfighter, and the bull during a bullfight.
This tour also allows you to visit the Bullfighting Museum of Madrid, where you will get acquainted with the history of bullfighting in Spain, and find rare artefacts and objects.
For nearly 100 years the Las Ventas Bullfighting Ring has been one of the most important buildings in Madrid. Get to know this iconic landmark on this great tour.
On arrival you will be handed an audio guide and you are free to explore independently. The magnificent Bullring was designed by Spanish architect José Espeliú and you can see Spanish and Moorish influences in the design. 52 plaques hold the shields of every province of Spain.
Your audio guide will escort you from the gateway to the stands to the arena and help you understand the bullfight from three main viewpoints; the Matador, the Bull and the audience.
Your bullfighting ring tour also includes a Bullfighting Museum of Madrid ticket with audio guide, allowing you to visit the museum on your own. Located at the Patio de Caballos, the museum will give you an insight into the history of bullfighting in Spain. Among its works we can find engravings from the tauromachy of Goya, bullfighter dresses from the twentieth century, a section devoted exclusively to Manolete and a large testimonial sample of the birth of the historic Las Ventas bullring.
