At the start of your Tropical Coast & Nerja Caves Day Trip from Granada you will be picked up from your hotel in Granada city center. With your multi-lingual guide (English and Spanish) you’ll enjoy a delightful day on Spain’s balmy “Costa Tropical”, which enjoys 320 days of sunshine a year and an average annual temperature of 20 degrees. Take a scenic drive past sugar-cane plantations, palm groves, golden beaches, and secluded coves to your first stop at Salobrena. Here, the whitewashed houses of the Old Town perch on a rocky promontory crowned with a dramatic 10th century Moorish castle. The walk up to the castle is steep but you will be rewarded with stunning views of the mountains, the sea and the lush fruit orchards. Your next stop is Almunecar, a historic town founded by the Phoenicians around 1000 BC. Here you’ll enjoy a walk in the Majuelo Park, a garden containing Europe's largest collection of subtropical plants. You’ll also visit San Miguel Castle, once a mighty Moorish fortress, and see magnificent views of the coast. Lunch will be in Almunecar and in the afternoon you will depart for Nerja, where you will explore the celebrated Nerja Caves. The magnificent Nerja Caves – Cuevas de Nerja – are a series of vast caverns stretching for almost 5 kilometres. Discovered in 1959 by five young boys, the caves are home to stunning rock formations including the world’s largest stalagmite, a 32-metre high column measuring 13 metres by 7 metres at its base. Archaeological evidence shows that both Neanderthals and prehistoric Homo sapiens lived in the caves, leaving behind paintings, tools and skeletons. (Access to the cave paintings is limited to special groups.) At the end of a fascinating day out, you will be driven back to your hotel in Granada.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour to confirm all details.
