Explore the wild and rugged western coast of Fuerteventura in this 5 hour walk from Jandia. Follow your experienced guide down old drovers roads and gravel tracks as we journey deep into a barren landscape heading for the isolated settlement of Cofete and the mysterious Villa Winter. Enjoy fantastic views from Fuerteventura's highest mountain as you see the whole island spread out below and then explore almost 35km of sandy beaches.
After leaving Jandia we'll make the climb past Pico Zarza, through cactus fields and barren hills. This mountain is Fuerteventura's highest standing at 807 metres high. Enjoy unparalleled views over the island from the summit, down to Cofete and Villa Winter, across to the isthmus of El pared and back to the peninsula of Jandia and Morro Jable.
From here we'll make the descent to Cofete. This small fishing village is one of the most isolated settlements on the island and it was here that a German engineer, Gustav Winter built Villa Winter in the period before WWII. The house stands on a fenced piece of land the same shape as Fuerteventura and the position of the building on the plot is the same as its location on the island. There are many conspiracy theories about this building, it is reputed to have been a supply base for German submarines as well as an escape route for fleeing Nazis.
