For your Lago Argentino Boat Trip you will be picked up at your hotel in El Calafate. You should bring a packed lunch with you.
The excursion starts at Puerto Bandera, approximately 31 miles from El Calafate, and you will head towards the northern branch of Lago Argentino.
Lago Argentino is the biggest freshwater lake in Argentina and the third largest in South America. As you sail along, observe the strange cloudiness of the lake water. This is due to a suspension of a very fine powder produced by glacier abrasion, called 'glacier milk'.
From the boat you will get marvellous views of the Upsala, Spegazzini and Onelli glaciers, the three biggest and highest of all glaciers in Los Glaciares National Park.
On your route you will also see spectacular ice floes – great chunks of frozen water that have broken off the main glaciers of the National Park. Carved by the weather into an array of different shapes, these natural ice sculptures drift gently along the lake and are a major feature of your boat tour.
In the afternoon, your boat will return to Puerto Bandera and you will then be dropped back at your hotel.
Please call the activity operator at least 48 hours prior to start of the tour to give them the name of your hotel for the morning pick-up and to confirm the departure time.
Lunch is not provided on the tour. You should bring a packed lunch with you
