  • For your exciting Day Trip To Montevideo – From Buenos Aires you will be picked up from your downtown hotel in a comfortable vehicle and driven to catch the ferry. Settle back and enjoy a 3-hour scenic boat ride along the great Rio de la Plata. As you approach your destination you will see magnificent views of the city of Montevideo and coastal Uruguay. Montevideo is famous for the beaches which form part of its urban landscape and add to its beauty and character. Upon exiting into the main area of the terminal you will be greeted by a representative – he will be holding a sign with your name on it - who will take you to the car in which you will be transferred to meet with your walking tour guide. Enjoy a 1.5 hour guided walking tour in the historic “Old Town” of Montevideo Described as a ‘vibrant, eclectic place with a rich cultural life’, Montevideo extends for 20 km from west to east. The city’s eclectic collection of architecture is unsurpassed in South America. Ranging from colonial to art deco, it is the generous legacy of waves of immigration from Britain, France, Portugal, and Spain. Your guided city tour includes famous landmarks in both the old and new parts of town. You will see the The Solis, one of the first theaters in South America and recently restored. In the Ciudad Vieja, (old city) you will visit the Plaza Independencia, one of the main squares in Montevideo. Here you will see the huge marble statue of Uruguay’s greatest hero, General Jose Gervasio Artigas. Your guide will also point out Uruguay's tallest building, the Palacio Salvo. You will visit the famous Iglesia Matriz or Metropolitan Cathedral. Built in 1804, the church is Montevideo's oldest public building and houses the tombs of some of Uruguay's most important religious and secular leaders. In the Ciudad Vieja, you'll find a large number of cultural centers and museums featuring paintings and photography. Street festivals are very common in Montevideo and you may come across a Candombe or Carnival show. (Candombe is a musical genre that has its origins in African music). While the Carnival shows only operate in February, the famous Candombe takes place all year round. You will have 2-2.5 hours of free time to enjoy lunch at the “Mercado del Puerto” (famous for its beef), shopping, walking the city, and exploring the nooks and crannies of Old Montevideo. You will meet the bus for your city tour at the “Mercado del Puerto” in front of the Museo de Carnival – it is the bright pink building (Look for a white van) At the end of the afternoon you will board the ferry for the return. On arrival back in Buenos Aires, you will be dropped back at the point where you were picked up.
