Overview

Take this unique opportunity to climb iconic Mount Montserrat Discover this magical mountain, the spiritual centre of Catalonia and a place of pilgrimage for many Catalans.

The Natural Park of the Mountain of Montserrat is a unique natural environment with its singular rock formations. The massive rock juts over 1000 m into the sky and can be seen for miles You'll find hidden paths and stairways and caves, chapels and hermitages scattered all over the mountain as well as the Abbey of Montserrat, a Benedictine Monastery with almost 1000 years of history.

We'll drive through the lush valley of the Llobregat as your knowledgeable local English guide entertains you with legends of the magical mountain and shrine. You'll see the distinctive jagged silhouette of the mountain looming over the plains.

We'll visit the Benedictine Monastery, perched halfway up the mountain. The main attraction has to be the Chapel of Our Lady of Montserrat, a Black Madonna known as La Moreneta and subject to great devotion throughout Catalonia.

We'll also have to visit the Abbey's great library, museum and art galleries together with its many souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. If you're lucky you may get to hear the music of the famous Escolania boy's choir. You can also attend a brief audio-visual presentation where you can learn all about the history of the Abbey and its inhabitants. You will also have plenty of time to explore this beautiful and spiritual site on your own. Then on the way back enjoy traditional Catalan folk songs. A day out to remember.
