we only had a day in paris and this trip made us see everyhting of note in that time - and we still had time for dinner before returning to london!

Fantastic tour to Sandakan and Sepilok Orangutan Centre

We were picked up from our hotel and taken to Kota Kinabalu airport where we caught a flight to Sandakan (we booked the flight separately and got a great deal with Malaysian Airlines). We were met by Salam, our guide, and Hatat, our driver and taken to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Sanctuary. It was pouring with rain and we were anxious that we would not see any wildlife, however our fears were put to rest as we saw 7 Orangutans at the feeding station. Wonderful! After our time at Sepilok, we were driven into Sandakan for an enjoyable Chinese smorgsabord lunch and as we had a lot of time until our flight home we had the opportunity to explore the local markets ourselves. Our tour guide then took us on a tour of the area and the sights included a guided tour through the fresh produce markets (very interesting), the Chinese Buddhist Temple, Agnes Keith House (where we stopped and had a cuppa at the traditional English tea house) and then on to the Sandakan War Memorial - situated on the site of the former POW camp, it is now a lovely park with a moving tribute to those who suffered. We enjoyed our day thoroughly, our only complaint was being picked up way too early for our morning flight. The tour operator insisted it would take an hour to get to Kota Kinabalu airport from our hotel - at 5.30am, it only took 15 minutes at the most and only 30 mins in peak hour traffic.
