Overview

The Leopold Museum is one of the most visited museums in Vienna and exhibits the best of Austrian art in the world.

The Leopold museum is home to more than 5000 artworks which were collected by the famous Austrian art collector Rudolph Leopold and his wife Elisabeth over a period of five decades. Some of the works of the major Austrian artists, such as, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Richard Gerstl, Oscar Kokoschka and Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller amongst many others, are on display.

Some of the main highlights of the museum are artist Egon Schiele’s best known work, Self-Portrait with Physalis, Gustave Klimt’s most important figurative work, Death and Life, Oscar Kokoschka’s landscape painting, Tre Croco – Dolomite Landscape and Richard Gerstl’s semi-nude portrait called the Self-Portrait Before a Blue Background.

Visit the museum and see for yourself the evolution of Austrian art from the Habsburg era’s strict historicism to lovely mood impressionism and Weiner modernism.

Apart from the substantial art collection of the Leopold’s, the museum also holds special exhibition displaying the works of contemporary artists.
