Overview

Enjoy a day in the lap of nature just 7 miles away from downtown Taipei City. Visit one of the most beautiful public libraries in the world and tour Yangmingshan National Park that covers a wide area of volcanic geological features.

Beitou Library: Often termed as the ‘Coolest Example of Green Building,’ the Taipei Public Library Beitou branch gives you ample backdrop to take amazing, insta-worthy pictures. The roof of the library is made of a lightweight eco material and set with power-generating solar panels – something worth checking out.

Thermal Valley: Once you hit the geothermal belt, you will come across sulphuric steam that blankets this scenic valley. Due to the mist that it forms all year round, these steams are called ‘Ghost Lakes’.

Flowers Clock: The centerpiece of the national park, the flowers clock changes colour every season due to its blooms. See this beauty tick-tocking on soft music all day long.

Yangming Shu-Wu Mansion: The mansion is the summer residence of the Taiwan’s former president Chiang Kai-shek for reception of important foreign guests. Today, it doubles up as a guesthouse and has become an important centre for Taiwan’s history.

Zhuzihu: White Calla lily flowers are spread out like a map in this beautiful garden. The flowers are in full bloom from March to May. Walk amidst them till the scenic spot where you will see the distant mountains.

Siaoyoukeng Recreation Area: Located on the foot of Mount Qixing, this post-volcanic geological landscape area is known for fumaroles, sulphur crystals, hot springs and spectacular 'landslide terrain'.

Cingtiangang: A lava terrace formed during the eruption of Mount Zhugao and was used as a pasture for grazing cattle during Japanese occupation.

Lengshueikeng Recreation Area: The last stop in the tour is a low-lying depression formed during a volcanic depression and eventually turned into a lake. But what you see now is a unique landscape which formed when the water dried up exposing the lake bottom. The water temperature of the hot springs in this area only reaches 40°C (104°F), far below that of other springs in other areas, hence its name Lengshuikeng, which means "cold water pit".

Beitou Hot Spring Museum:

The two-storey Tudor-style building of the museum has a brick and wood façade, and black tile roof. The first level consists with a small bath and a large bath; as you walking along the arcade you can see the baths up close. Additionally, the display of “sento” simulates the facilities of a traditional public bath, where you can have an understanding of how the communal bathhouse worked in the past.

The second level consists with a huge Tatami lobby and a balcony with a special exhibition area where the early Taiwanese film documents are displayed. This is a good place to learn about Beitou’s rich hot spring culture and history.
