At Södermalmstorg, by the stairs leading down to the City Museum (Stadsmuseet). The nearest metro station is Slussen.Ending Point
Walk the footsteps of author Steig Larsson’s Millenium trilogy and see the homes of its main characters during your tour of Södermalm. The neighbourhood is considered a fashionable part of Stockholm due to the many vintage shops, eclectic boutiques, chic cafés and great restaurants that line the district’s streets.
You will also visit the fashionable SoFo district, the area’s edgy vibes similar to those found in New York's Brooklyn and London's Shoreditch. Short for South of Folkungagatan, the district is mainly inhabited by the city’s hipster population and is home to many independent galleries and intimate bars.
Meet your English-speaking guide at Södermalmstorg, by the stairs leading down to the City Museum (Stadsmuseet).
Led by your guide, explore the hip and happening Södermalm neighbourhood, Stockholm’s southern island. Formerly a working class neighbourhood, Södermalm today is a mishmash of 16thcentury architecture and modern boutiques, cafés and bars.
During the walk, your guide will reveal the history of this granite-cliff island and discuss how the petite red cottages gave way to large modern apartments. You will learn how a fire in Gamla Stan in the 17th century drove a major section of working class residents to build affordable wooden houses in this district.
You will also tour the areas mentioned in author Steig Larsson’s Millenium trilogy. Follow the footsteps of the trilogy’s main characters, stroll through walkways and see the splendid 21-room penthouse of Lisbeth Salander on Fiskargatan 9 and the striking hilltop location of Mikael Blomkvist’s apartment on Bellmansgatan 1.
Next, proceed to the trendiest area in Stockholm, the South of Folkungagatan, popularly known as the SoFo district. Lined with vintage shops, eclectic boutiques, barbershops and restaurants, you will see the hordes of bushy-bearded men and Buddy Holly spectacles that make SoFo Stockholm’s ultimate hipster neighbourhood. It is here that your walking tour will come to an end, after which you are free to explore the neighbourhood on your own.
