Padas River is recognized internationally as one of the best white water rivers in Malaysia, with its Grade III and IV rapids offering a challenging course for rafters. For those seeking thrills in the great outdoors, the Padas River offers a heart-pounding and rewarding experience.
Take this tour, tame the rapids of Padas and enjoy a wet, rough and tumble ride on the ultimate white water rafting adventure in Sabah.
For your Whitewater Rafting on the Padas River adventure, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu in a coach.
A journey of about 1½ hours brings you to the Beaufort railway station in time to catch the train to Pangi Station, the starting point of the rafting adventure. The railway track runs along the Padas River so the journey is an opportunity to size up the raging rapids as the train chugs through the lush green jungles.
You will reach Rayoh Station where you also deposit your dry clothes to be collected on your return from the rafting experience. You then continue to travel on to Kampung Panggi, the take-off point. Here, you will meet your rafting guide and receive briefings on safety procedures.
Disembark at Pangi station and carry your raft down to the Padas riverbank. The rafting journey on Padas River is between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the river-stage. The route is a Grade III to Grade IV and presents a challenge even to experienced rafters.
The route covers a distance of 9 km (5.4 miles) and includes 7 exhilarating rapids! These carry expressive names such as Merry-Go-Round Rapid, Break Point Rapid, Scooby Doo Rapid, Cobra Rapid, Curve Rapid, Lambada Rapid and Head Hunter Rapid. These names give you hint of what to expect at each rapid.
You will get out of the river at Rayoh and, after a delicious Barbeque lunch, will return by train from Rayoh back to Beaufort.
At Beaufort, you will be picked up in a vehicle and taken back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
