Overview

Embark on a private tour of Prague Castle, the largest castle complex in the world.

Covering a vast area of over seven hectares this is more than any ordinary castle. A labyrinth of palaces, churches, monasteries, museums, fortifications and watch towers awaits the curious visitor. As the seat of all heads of state, from Monarchs to Presidents, Prague Castle has always been the historical and political heart of the Czech Republic.

Perched high up on a hill overlooking the town, it is here that you can enjoy some of the best views of the city. Step into the imposing Basilica of St. George. Its colourful Baroque facade belies the fact that this is the oldest building of the area dating back to the 10th century. Next we move on to the Royal Palace. Gaze in awe at the beautiful high vaulted ceilings of the Vladislav Hall. Learn how knights would come down the Rider’s Staircase on horseback to compete in indoor jousting tournaments before visiting the other impressive rooms.

We continue on to perhaps the most emblematic of the buildings within the complex: St. Vitus Cathedral. This stunning gothic masterpiece was built in the 14th century and has witnessed the coronations of the Czech monarchs as well as their burials. After visiting the different courts we reach enchanting Golden Lane, where Franz Kafka once lived. The visit continues in the Mala Strana, where you can admire the church of St. Nicholas and the Church of Our Lady of Victory.
