Activity Overview
A life as interesting as his art; Ossip Zadkine was born in Russia and moved to England before studying art in France. Injured in World War I and exiled to New York during WWII (due to his Jewish heritage), his artistic output never hampered.
Musée Zadkine allows visitors to step inside the home studio of the artist and see some of his works exactly where they were crafted. Discover how he and his wife, artist Valentine Prax, shaped their work around their lives, the wars, and Paris.
Ongoing Exhibition: The Dreamer of the Forest - Up To February 23, 2020
Over 100 pieces of art by some 40 artists have been loaned to the Musée Zadkine to express Zadkine's love of the forest and the organic nature occupied by much of his work. The loans include pieces from Apollinaire, Dubuffet, Ernst, Munch, Gauguin, and Giacometti and span a variety of mediums – from poetry to philosophy and science.
Since the industrial revolution, the refuge of the forest has offered purpose and solitude in stark contrast to the mechanized upheaval of change. Its enchanting, yet fear-inducing wilderness is examined in this exhibition which delineates the meaning of nature to man.
