Overview

Discover the many gems of the pine-clad Troodos Mountains, an area of outstanding beauty in Cyprus.

Nestled high in these mountains is the Kykkos Monastery, the most famous one in Cyprus. It was founded by the Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos in the 11th century. See exquisite gold icons, glittering ornamentation mosaics and frescoes, and learn about the monastery’s special mystical significance.

What's the plan:

You will be picked up from your hotel in Paphos in an air-conditioned coach and taken for a sightseeing tour to the Kykkos Monastery. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.

Drive to Panayia a charming village, located on the southern slopes of the Troödos Mountains. Enjoy the picturesque beauty as you enjoy coffee (not included in the tour) before heading to Kykkos.

Arrive at the Kykkos Monastery. Dedicated to Virgin Mary, this 11th century monastery has some exquisite mosaics and frescoes. A huge pierced monolith in its courtyard is said to have mystical powers, according to local folklore, a woman who passes through the hole is blessed with a child. The monastery is ornately decorated with wonderful mosaics in bright colours. It is also renowned for its wealth, with many gold icons and beautifully preserved frescoes. Next stop, it will be a picnic site where will enjoy a picnic lunch.

Next stop, it will be Foini village, where you will have lunch. Last stop is at Omodos Village, where you will have a guided walk through the village and visit the Monastery of Holy Cross. Your guide will fill your day with plenty of stories and unravel the history of Cyprus, piece by piece.

You will drive back to Paphos and dropped off at your hotel.
