Observe Nene geese in their native habitat and discover the secret of the rare Silversword plant.

After soaking up the summit views, enjoy a guided distillery tour and tasting, followed by a delicious lunch at the beloved Hali’imaile General Store. Stroll past a meandering stream through a forest bursting with native Hawaiian plant life, gaze high above at the iconic Iao Needle – a natural outcropping jutting from the mountain side. The needle is covered in emerald green vegetation and towers 1,200 feet over Iao valley. Iao Valley is used to be an ancient burial site for Hawaii’s royalty and is steeped in history.

A drive around the Iao Needle and surrounding state park promises a beautiful panorama of this famous lookout point and burial peaceful ground. Dress for the weather. While at Haleakala summit, the temperature is around 20-40 degrees Fahrenheit, the lower areas will be comparatively warmer.

The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details. Please give them a call at least 24 hours before tour date to confirm pickup time and other departure details.

Kindly note our local operator is not permitted to pick up in residential areas or at B&B’s.

Guests under 21 must wait outside during tastings at distillery tour, and a valid photo ID is required.

This tour is not recommended for guests with heart or respiratory conditions that may be exacerbated due to high altitude. People who have gone scuba diving should wait 72 hours before going on this tour. This tour is operated on rough, winding roads. It is not recommended for pregnant women or those with back or motion problems.
