These vast caverns are crammed full of stunning limestone rock formations in a fantastic array of natural sculptures. Look around and you will see shapes resembling organ pipes, columns, tree roots, icicles, draperies, castles and much more.
The magical effect is enhanced by beautiful illuminations and reflections in the crystal clear pools within the caverns. Rainbow banding in the rock created by thousands of years of mineral deposition adds to the enchantment.
The caves form a natural auditorium and the high point of your tour will be a classical concert beside a vast underground lake – a truly unique experience.
The day trip also includes a visit to a pearl factory, where you can see for yourself how Mallorca’s celebrated imitation pearls are made.
The Caves of Drach Tour is a ‘must do’ on your Mallorca vacation. At the start of the tour, you will be picked up from your hotel in Cala D’Or and driven to the Caves of Drach near Porto Cristo.
Discovered in 1896 by Eduard Martel, the Caves of Drach – the Dragon Caves – are the largest caves in Mallorca and one of the island’s most popular attractions.
Visitors from all over the world come to marvel at the weird and wonderful rock formations that have formed over millions of years. The stalactites (hanging down) and stalagmites (growing upward) are dramatically illuminated, creating stunning visual effects.
There are three main caves, Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave) and Cueva Luis Salvator, at the end of which is a place called La Ventana (the window).
Guided tours of the caves in English, German and French are available and you will have time to take the tour and wander at leisure.
Your walk through the caves ends at the fantastic Lago de Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world. Here you will be treated to a classical music concert provided by musicians floating across the lake in boats.
You will spend around 60-90 minutes at the Caves of Drach. Afterwards, you will enjoy a visit to a pearl factory. Local Mallorca women have specialized in making imitation pearls since the 19th century. These faux pearls are recognized worldwide for their quality and perfection. “Majorca Pearls” look so much like natural pearls that only experts can tell them apart.
At the end of the day you will be dropped back at your hotel or pick-up point in Cala D’Or.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
There may be delays in pick-up due to the state of the roads or the size of the vehicle.
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
