To begin your delightful Fátima & Óbidos Day Tour From Lisbon, you will be met by your guide in Restauradores Square.
You proceed via minivan to Fátima to visit the Sanctuary, one of the world’s most important Catholic pilgrimage sites, with approximately 5 million visitors each year. Awaiting you at Capelinha das Aparições, the heart of the sanctuary, is the exact spot where the Blessed Virgin appeared to three children in May 1917. You continue to Monumento ao Sagrado Coração de Jesus (Sacred Heart of Jesus), whose waters are said to have been sanctified by the Blessed Virgin herself. Next you discover the stunning 14th century Batalha Monastery, the most significant symbol of the Avis Dynasty. The monastery was built in gratitude to Our Lady of Victory for having helped the Portuguese in the battle of Aljubarrota (1385) against the army of Castela.
On your way to the fishing town of Nazaré, you’ll stop at the top of the cliffs for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. In Nazaré, you can savor a scrumptious lunch (payable direct) at your choice of the enticing restaurants and snack bars.
After lunch, relish the sea breeze as you’re driven along the Atlantic Coast. You’ll visit the lovely village of Óbidos, complete with narrow streets, castle walls and handicraft shops. This postcard perfect village is so well preserved that you’ll feel as if you’re stepping back in time. A delicious treat, the famous Ginja liqueur in a chocolate cup, is yours for the sampling.
The tour ends as you’re taken back to Restauradores Square. From there, you will need to make your own arrangements for returning to your accommodation.
