Overview

Experience typical tribal dwellings of one of the many native tribes of Sarawak. Drive past cocoa holdings, pepper vineyards and old rubber plantations, lush rainforests and vast paddy fields from Kuching to Annah Rais and visit a traditional longhouse of the Bidayuh tribe where over 100 families live together.

Living in a longhouse is the way of life of the Land and Sea Dayaks of Sarawak. It is a community dwelling constructed of belian and bamboo, roofed with atap and standing on stilts. Artistic bamboo carvings adorn most of the interior of the longhouse.

During your visit, you will be introduced to the many families from the same tribe who live together in the longhouse, sharing a long outer communal room and open verandah where daily household chores are jointly done. You will see human skulls kept at the part of the house where the head of the tribe lives.

You will interact with the locals and learn about their traditional farming techniques. Enjoy the warm hospitality of the friendly natives and take in the scenic beauty of the village surroundings.
