Overview

When it comes to sightseeing, Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands, has got plenty to keep your camera clicking. Topping the list has to be magnificent Myrtos Bay. If it looks familiar it's because it landed a star role in the Hollywood movie 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'. Lapped by clear blue waters and hugged by cliffs, it's one of the most photographed places in Greece.

Save some film for the impressive stalactites and stalagmites at the Caves of Drogarati. Don't forget to snap a few shots as you sail around the mystical underground lake, Melissani. Watch the waters flash from turquoise to indigo to violet as your guide steers you through this enchanting lake.

Later on, you'll have time to explore the en vogue fishing village of Fiskardo. If you want to see Kefalonia's star sights in just a day, this is the trip for you.

Itinerary

The tour begins from Skala Square and accompanied by an English-speaking guide, set out in an air-conditioned vehicle for a discovery tour of the beautiful island of Kefalonia.

The highlights of your island tour are:
Myrtos Beach: Touted as the best beach in Greece and among the ten best beaches in the world, the Myrtos Beach is breathtakingly beautiful and will give you ample photo opportunities. Myrtos is best viewed from the road where the full effect of turquoise water lapping the white pebbles can be seen.

Caves of Drogarati: These amazing caves are said to be 150 million years old and local myth has it that it was once the home of a dragon. The caves house some of the most spectacular multi-colored stalactites ever seen. Hanging from the roof, these snaking, ice wonders still remain in the large underground chamber. The acoustics of these ancient caves is so amazing that they are used as venues for cultural events even today!

Underground Lake and Cave of Melissani: This subterranean lake and cave is one of the most idyllic places, previously buried deep in the earth. A tunnel offers easy passage to small boats carrying visitors to admire the spectacular sight of the stalactites and the changing kaleidoscopic colors of the water. Enjoy a 15-minutes cruise on the transparent waters of the lake and see the sun’s rays create magical hues on its surface.

Later on, you'll have time to explore the en vogue fishing village of Fiskardo. Its pastel-washed tavernas will tempt you in for a bite (payable direct). You'll see the up and coming port of Agia Efimia, too.

The tour returns to the starting point.
