Overview

Immerse yourself into traditional Japanese culture and learn three basic skills of Sado (tea ceremony), Syodou (calligraphy) and Onigiri (cooking) when you visit Miyajima from Hiroshima.

To give an authentic twist to the experience, you will learn these activities at a 300-year-old Zen temple - Tokujuji, dressed up in kimono, the traditional Japanese attire. The English speaking staff at the temple will teach you the skills and will be open to an interactive session.

You have the choice of two options – Plan A: Tea Ceremony, Japanese Calligraphy and Japanese Cooking, and Plan B: Tea Ceremony and Japanese Calligraphy.

Tea Ceremony ‘Sado’ Experience: Learn the Japanese way of showing hospitality to the guests as you learn how to make tea and serving it.

Japanese Calligraphy ‘Syadou’ Experience: Learn how to use bamboo brush and write Japanese alphabets (kanji) and Chinese characters (katakana). Pick your favourite kanji from the sample, write it in sumi ink and sign it off with katakana. You will take your work with you.

Japanese Cooking ‘Onigiri’ Experience: Try your hand in making those perfect triangles with rice during this popular Japanese home-made cooking session called Onigiri.
