Overview

Our tour begins at the Baumwall S-Bahn Metro station, from where go to our first destination, Speicherstadt. As we cross the canal, we will learn the fascinating story of how Hamburg came to be a Free Port city and how that helped make the city the thriving metropolis it is today. We will then see Hafen City, considered one of Western Europe’s most ambitious urban development projects.

Our next destination is the Kontorhauseviertel, a business quarter made entirely of red brick. We will see the most famous examples of this peculiar and charming branch of local architecture, such as the Chile House. We will also visit the market known as Burchardplatz. Later we will see other architectural wonders such as the Springenhof and the Montanhof.

The highlight of this 2 hour walking tour will be the Elbphilharmonie. Learn more about the costs and development of this great building, it’s nearly perfect acoustics and what Hamburg citizens think about their new landmark. Whilst here take a moment to contemplate as you take in the breathtaking 360° views of the city and the harbour from the platform.

By the end of the tour, there will be no doubt left in your mind as to why Hamburg was noticed more than once by UNESCO.
