Literature fans can draw inspiration from William Wordsworth's famed abode - the Wordsworth Cottage. Behold the wonders that Scotland has to offer from the ancient boundary of Hadrian’s Wall to the great city of Edinburgh.
The tour starts from Edinburgh bus station as you board the comfortable and top-of-the-line Mercedes mini coach.
Day 1
The day begins from the Scottish borders of Northumberland, travelling across the East Lothian coastline towards the town of Berwick Upon Tweed . Over the quick stopover, make sure to go around this walled city with beautiful beaches and riverside walks.
And finally, Day 1 tour comes to an end as you travel further towards the City of York through the Great North Road , the famous route which was crossed by many Roman armies from the Roman Brittania to the remote Northern outposts. You’ll be arriving in York late in the afternoon and stopping over for two nights.
Day 2
After a long day of travelling, enjoy Day 2 at your own leisure. Explore the medieval side of York, a city whose history is still afresh with the memories of the Romans, Vikings and the Normans. Follow up your explorations with an excursion to the North Sea coast of Yorkshire. The excursion begins in the late morning towards the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Grab some lunch in the famous town of Whitby, where author Bram Stoker became famous for his legendary gothic novel Dracula .
After strolling through Whitby, head towards the small fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay . Enjoy walking downhill and uphill to the old village centre, its ethereal beauty kept intact within the narrow alleys and winding lanes. Day 2 ends here with a journey back to York.
Day 3 Get ready for an exciting day! You’ll be picked up from your accommodation and taken to the heart of Yorkshire Dales National Park in the west. With gorgeous sceneries and a wide range of wildlife habitats to chance upon, this cultural heritage is an amazing arena for outdoorsy excursions, relaxation and wildlife viewing. Furthering into the west, you’ll be taken through the picturesque Northern Dales, the centre of the Dales cattle trade. Day 3 comes to an end after a journey high up into the remote hills of Yorkshire Dales. Unwind yourself and explore the charming town of Keswick as you come down from the hills into the lively market town.
Day 4
Packed with a punch, Day 4 begins with breakfast, after which you’ll be heading out to the mysterious Castlerigg Stone Circle , a place for ancient rituals said to be over 5000 years old. Next, you’ll be travelling to the shores of England’s most beautiful lake Ullswater . Take a walk through the nearby forest to see the mighty Aira Force Waterfall . Head further south through the Kirkstone Pass reaching Lake Windermere .
Enjoy a leisurely cruise on the lake or savour a hearty lunch with magnificent views of the mountains and the lake. After lunch, go around the southern tip of Windemere, towards Coniston Water, finally reaching the picturesque village of Hawkshead , where William Wordsworth attended Grammar School! Visit fun locations for more explorations like the beautiful spot Grasmere, Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage or bask in the tranquil Wordsworth Daffodil Garden by the River Rothy. You’ll be spending time here till late afternoon, after which the coach will take you back to Keswick.
Day 5
Pull up your socks as Day 5 kickstarts with a climb towards Hartside Pass , about 1900 feet high! If it’s a clear day, the hills and mountains of Scotland and English Lake District will be clearly visible. Keeping on route of the old sheep drovers, we stop over at the Hadrians Wall and take a closer look at the Roman remains built under Emperor Hadrian.
Keep on the track of the ancient Roman Dere Street, crossing the border into Scotland. Enjoy a relaxing stopover for refreshments near the stunning Jedburgh Abbey in the town of Jedburgh. The tour comes to its last leg at the world’s famous Scott’s View , promising you delightful sights of the Scottish border with the River Tweed and the Cheviot Hills in view.
