Spend the day sightseeing Chennai’s iconic landmarks as your guide walks you through Marina Beach, St. George Fort and a famous Shiva Temple. Chennai is the gateway of South India and the 4th largest city in the country spread over 50 miles and featuring a large and beautiful waterfront on the Bay of Bengal.
The British East India Company established its first trading post at Chennai, and in 1653 the company built Fort Saint George to protect its position. Continue onward to see Marina Beach, the second longest beach in the world. The St. George Fort, built in 1653, is currently used as the state government’s secretariat. Follow up with a quick visit to another colonial structure – the Santhome Cathedral which was built around 14th to 15th century.
The last leg of your tour is dedicated to Lord Shiva with a visit to Kapaleeswara Temple, the oldest temple in Chennai. Another important temple in the city dedicated to Lord Krishna is Parthasarthy Temple. The Snake Park has a large collection of snakes and many other reptiles. When the sun begins to set, you may also choose to visit flower and fruit market.
