Explore historic sites in Cebu and Mactan as you trace the journey of the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan on this comprehensive guided tour of the twin cities. Learn all about Philippines and about the explorer from his land fall upon the shores of Cebu in 1521 to his defeat in the Battle of Mactan with Chieftain Lapu-Lapu. Along the way you visit a craft market and national shrine that speaks to the people´s religious fervor and artistry.
Cebu's icon, Magellan's Cross, is the first stop on your journey. See the home of the image of Jesus as a child at Basilica Minore of the Christ Child and then make your way to Fort San Pedro, a coral stone fortress originating from the original wooden structure built on the site in 1565.
You also make a stop at the beautiful Ting-kwong Taoist Temple located on the hillside in the northern suburbs of Cebu. It was built in 1948 as a Taoist priest who worships the Chinese thinker. Most of the local residents of Cebu have half or all of Chinese descent, so this temple is very large. To a certain extent, it reflects the local Chinese tradition. At the highest point of Cebu, you can see the panoramic view of Cebu and experience the unique feelings of the small mountains.
Next stop is the Cebu Heritage Monument in Parian Square where during the Rajah Humabon era, the recent Cebu Martyrs Pedro Calungsod was blessed (being a "saint”). The monument sculpture is the work of renowned artist Edgardo Castrillo and is definitely worth a visit. After lunch, you will also visit the Santiago Yapp House and more famous highlights such as Magellan Cross, Basilica Minore del Sto.Nino Cathedral, among others
