For your La Plata City Tour From Buenos Aires you will be picked up from your downtown hotel in a comfortable vehicle and driven to the city of La Plata.
The journey takes around an hour and you will then enjoy a guided tour of the architecture, culture, religion and natural science of this appealing city.
Officially founded in 1882, La Plata is the perfect example of well-thought-out 19th century city planning. Diagonal avenues cross the regular 5km-square grid pattern to connect the major plazas, creating a distinctive star design. The city design and its buildings are said to possess a strong element of Freemasonry symbolism.
Designs for the government buildings were chosen in an international architectural competition. The Governor’s Palace was designed by Italians and City Hall by Germans. Electric street lighting was installed in 1884, and was the first of its kind in Latin America.
As you drive through the city you’ll be blown away by the imposing Neo-Gothic Cathedral of La Plata, the largest church in Argentina. Continuing your tour through the diagonal layout of city streets, visit the Argentinean Theatre followed by the National University.
First stop at the University is the Astronomical Observatory, positioned in the perfect location and region of the world to observe the transit of the planet Venus across the Sun.
Then visit the University’s La Plata Natural Science Museum, the most important museum of its kind in South America. Inaugurated in 1888, this scientific wonder hosts a collection of over 2 million objects and species from a various number of disciplines including: Paleontology, Anthropology, Geology, Botany and Zoology. Discover Argentina inside out through the wealth of objects collected from around the country and leave with a deeper understanding.
At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at the point where you were picked up.
