Explore Newport, one of the cities that heralded America’s famed Gilded Age. Today, yachts, fabulous mansions and millionaires are Newport’s staple.
Tour some of the most fabulous mansions that dot this city located on the southern end of Rhode Island. Visit Mrs. Vanderbilt’s seventy-room summer home, on 11 acres of ocean front land, The Breakers. Afterwards you’ll go on to Newport’s beautifully restored waterfront for shopping and lunch (not included in the tour price). See the glamorous private yachts, modern racing sailboats, Newport’s fishing fleet and ships from around the world.
In the afternoon, you will visit a second famous mansion - The Marble House, with 500,000 cubic feet of white marble built in 1892. One of the most opulent and prominent among the Gilded Age mansions of Newport, the Marble House is known for its extravagant gold ballroom.
Enjoy the ten-mile Ocean Drive with spectacular views of mansions and secluded coves before returning to Boston. This is the marked scenic route along the dramatic Atlantic shoreline that circles Newport and has spectacular views of Newport’s famed mansions.
