His art is one of the most treasured objects in the world, yet in his 37 years of existence Vincent Van Gogh was undiscovered and his work ignored. It was only after his death in 1890 that his genius and artistic excellence was recognized as one of the most influential styles in Western art world.

So what makes Van Gogh unique? The sunflowers, starry nights, self-portraits or the dispassionate paintings of peasants and working life? See for yourself and delve deep into his art at Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum that holds the largest collection of paintings by the great master. The museum houses over 500 paintings, chronologically displayed, tracing his artistic journey. You will also come across 750 letters, including those exchanged between him and his beloved brother, Theodore. The museum also consists of artworks by Van Gogh’s friends like Gauguin, Anton Mauve and Millet.
