Climb aboard an air-conditioned coach and travel through a typical Dutch landscape en route to the iconic Afsluitdijk. Stop to admire this impressive 32-kilometer dike that connects the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. A remarkable feat of engineering, the Afsluitdijk was built to tame the former Zuiderzee (now the IJsselmeer Lake) and stands as a proud symbol of Dutch water management expertise.
Then, continue your journey through the scenic countryside to the picturesque town of Giethoorn. Upon arrival, experience how the Dutch live with—and on—the water as you explore this peaceful, car-free village. Wander on foot and glide through the canals by boat, soaking up the tranquility of a town where little has changed over the centuries.
Admire the variety of boats in Giethoorn, from gondolas to punters and traditional flat-bottomed vessels. Cruise past beautifully restored farmhouses on a relaxing 1-hour boat trip, and enjoy some free time for lunch and independent exploration. Get helpful tips from your guide on what to see and where to eat to make the most of your visit.
The tour starts from Lindbergh Office where a 1.5 hour ride by deluxe coach takes you through the scenic Dutch countryside into the charming town of Giethoorn. Fondly called as the Dutch Venice for its picturesque narrow canals, the place is adored for its iconic waterways, beautifully renovated farmhouses, and overall peaceful atmosphere.
Discover the fascinating and different culture of Giethoorn by gliding through the canals of the quaint little town on variety of boats such as gondolas, punters, flat-bottom boats among others. Shielded from city noise, even cars aren’t allowed in Giethoorn, thereby preserving the town’s traditions over centuries.
Glide through the placid waters past adeptly restored farmhouses where the expert guide can make recommendations for what to see and where to eat. Explanations are multilingual in English, Spanish and German so tourists from various walks of life may find all the helpful information. Enjoy a delightful meal at the local eateries, shop for quaint local products for loved ones or simply relax before returning to the boat.
To help you fully appreciate the serenity and the tranquillity that characterizes Giethoorn, we then take on a 20-km long watercourse over the Ijsselmeer, one of the largest lakes in Western Europe. On either side of the lake you view the stunning and evergreen tracts of land called polders that compose the hydrological makeup of the town.
Experience the perfection of this well preserved, nearly Venetian-styled fairytale town where the Giethoorn tour comes to an end, and we continue on to Amsterdam.
Please be at the Lindbergh office at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Seats are guaranteed until 30 minutes prior to departure.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour to confirm all details.
