Overview
This wonderful half-day excursion from Amsterdam introduces you to some of the rich traditions and fine scenery of the Netherlands.
Admire the monumental and colourful Windmills of Zaanse Schans. The Zaanse Schans is full of traditional green-timbered houses and warehouses. The characteristic green wooden houses, hump-backed bridges and windmills perfectly embody the picture-perfect landscape for which Holland is so well known. Explore Volendam on a city walk, where you can learn more about the history and culture of this village.
Witness the cheese making, the traditional Dutch method which is still used to make cheese and visit to a traditional clogmaker. You will also enjoy a Boat ride between Marken & Volendam.
Itinerary
The tour starts from Damrak 26 in Amsterdam. You will travel by coach.
Leave the city of Amsterdam behind to explore the Dutch countryside. Your luxury coach will take you to windmill village ‘de Zaanse Schans’, with its characteristic green wooden houses. On the turn of the 18th century this district was an industrial area with approximately 700 windmills in use.
Continue to Volendam, you will explore the city on a walking tour and you will also visit the traditional fisherman’s village of Marken, situated on the shores of the former Zuiderzee
After a stop for photos of the windmills, visit a clog-maker to discover how the traditional wooden shoes are made also known as Klompen. Decode the secret of making world-famous Dutch cheese when you visit a traditional cheese farm. Enjoy a Boat ride between Marken and Volendam and take in the beauty of the views on your way.
