Overview

Kickstart your visit to Agra by first heading to Aram Bagh which is now known as Ram Bagh. This Garden was originally founded by Babur, the Founder of the Mughal Dynasty in India. He laid it out, in 1526, on the Persian Terraced and Char Bagh (Four Quartered) Plan. Ram Bagh is the oldest Mughal garden and one of the eminent Persian styled Mughal gardens of the land.

This land stands as the example of architectural skill of Nur Jahan, mother of Shah Jahan (builder of Taj Mahal). The Mughal emperors were perhaps one of the greatest rulers of the country and leading influences in shaping the country into what she is today. Much of the influences of the dynasty can still be seen all around the country today, notable amongst which is the dynasty's architectural prowess.

The Ram Bagh garden was made in three descending terraces and the water was drawn from the river Yamuna by a series of water-wheels and it flowed into a network of canals, cascades and tanks descending from one terrace to the other. Each cascade has stairs on both sides and ends in a pond, all built of red stone.
