Make your way to the Agra Fort
Same as starting point
Behold the majesty of the Mughal Empire’s architectural marvel on your visit to the 16th century UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Agra Fort. Agra Fort was initially built by Akbar in 1565 on the same site as a previous fort on the banks of the Yamuna River. Even though it’s called a fort, Agra Fort is more closely recognized as a unique congregation of multiple exquisite palaces.
Only a stone’s throw away from the Taj Mahal, this majestic fort has shared its red sandstone walls with a string of emperors like Humayun and Shah Jahan. Evidence of Shah Jahan’s time spent in the fort can be seen in the white marble structures he erected during his reign and took his last breaths overlooking the Taj Mahal.
You can head in early morning to beat the crowd or even visit around sundown time which really brings out the red sandstone of the fort. Take the time to tour the complex and at your own pace read up as much as you’d like about the historic monument along the way.
