The tour ends at the starting point
Sail across Beqa Passage in a private chartered boat, enjoying spectacular views of the mainland’s mountainous interior and palm-fringed shoreline.
Beqa Island is famous for its peaceful lagoons, perfect for leisurely kayaking. Paddling your craft through one of these hidden lagoons, you’re likely to see hundreds of fruit bats in the surrounding trees, as well as a variety of birdlife. Tide permitting, continue to the end of the lagoon where a hidden mangrove passage leads to the south of the island.
Enjoy picnic lunch on a white sand beach, snorkel among colorful reefs and then paddle around the bay one last time before boarding your boat for the return.
As you cross the deep waters of Beqa Passage, keep your eyes peeled for the pods of pilot whales and dolphins that can often be seen. Enjoy a cool drink, a refreshing breeze and, with luck, a golden sky as you make your way back to Pacific Harbour.
There are four options for your Beqa Island Sea Kayak Tour, the only variation being the arrangements for getting to and from the local activity operator’s office in Pacific Harbour.
The four options are:
• Nadi Area: Hotel pick up & drop-off included
• Coral Coast or Suva: Hotel pick up & drop-off included
• Pacific Harbour: No hotel pick-up or drop-off. Make your way to the local activity operator’s office in Pacific Harbour, in the grounds of the Pearl South Pacific Resort.
You will board a private chartered boat at Pacific Harbour and sail across the Beqa Passage to Beqa Island. As you near Beqa – the island of Fiji’s famed fire walkers – quaint seaside villages and the steep volcanic cliffs of Malumu Bay come into view. In the protected waters of a sheltered bay, your guide will provide a brief orientation to the kayaks and equipment you’ll be using before you paddle off in search of fun and adventure.
You will paddle into Malumu Bay where you can enjoy the peace and serenity of your surroundings. Your guide will also show you a fruit bat colony – an amazing sight with hundreds of fruit bats clinging to the trees. Depending on the state of the tide, you will explore a mangrove passage and arrive on a calm white beach for lunch.
Lunch will consist of a deli-spread of cold cuts (meats), cheeses, seasonably fresh vegetables, fruits, fresh bread and rolls, assorted cookies and other condiments. Juice and water are also available. As you relax over the picnic you will see magnificent views over towards Kadavu Island.
After lunch you can swim or snorkel the fantastic reefs of this amazing southern shore. Board your boat for the return journey through the Beqa Lagoon and across Beqa Passage. Watch for pilot whales, dolphins and the mountains of Namosi.
Depending on the timing of the trip and the state of the tide you will enjoy either a morning or an afternoon snack during the tour.
You will leave the boat at Pacific Harbour. For guests from Pacific Harbour the tour ends at the tour operator’s office. Other guests will be dropped back at their hotels.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
The Beqa Island Sea Kayak Tour depends on the availability of a boat to transfer guests from the main island to Beqa. It will also be dependent on high tide since there is an opening in the reef that can only be crossed at high tide.
The actual sequence of the trip and elements included are subject to tidal fluctuations.
You are advised not to bring cameras or video cams or electronic equipment (unless waterproof) as it could get wet, damp, damaged or lost. Please note that your activity operator will not be responsible for the care or safekeeping of your personal equipment on the sea kayak trip.
Bring any special medications (allergy, etc.) with you. Let your trip leader know if you have any special medical considerations before setting out.
Please give details of medical concerns or dietary restrictions you might have when making your booking.
You should be reasonably strong, fit and able to swim. People with heart trouble and pregnant women should have their physician's approval before taking an adventure trip.
Please be advised that the U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets are rated to accommodate persons no heavier than 260 pounds and with a chest size no larger than 52 inches.
Tour requires a minimum of 8 passengers to operate
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
All trips practice a ‘Leave No Trace’ environmental and social ethic. All garbage and waste packed in are packed out.
If you feel that your guide(s) have worked hard for you, a small gratuity would be appreciated. You can give the tip to your trip leader or the receptionist in the activity operator’s office. It will be evenly distributed among the guides or per your request
