Head first to the Chen Clan Temple also known as the Chen Family Academy dating as far back as the 1890s. Your expert and knowledgeable English speaking guide leads you through the rich history of Chen Clan Temple which is now used as the Guang Dong Local Arts Museum. Witness amazing wood, ivory and brick carvings as you walk through the temple hallways. Head next to the Mausoleum of Nanyue King where the Nanyue Royal Tomb has been resting for over 2000 years! Walk through the historic depths of the tomb which lies 20 metres underground. Admire the vivid and colourful cloud paintings on the ceiling and walls of the front chamber and explore the evidence of this ancient city. After strolling through the interesting attractions and working up an appetite, next stop is a feast for the palate as you tuck into a traditional Chinese style lunch. Relish the local delicacies and after the scrumptious meal, head to the next attraction on your itinerary – the Six Banyan Temple. A renowned ancient cultural site, the temple was built in the year 537, the temple is home to three large Buddhist statues in Guangdong Province. Walk around the staggering 184-feet Flower Pagoda, admire its floral and colourful exterior carvings and behold the thousand-Buddha copper pillar cast from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) that rests atop the pagoda. The final attraction on the tour is the Shamian Island. Head to the north bank of the Pearl River’s White Goose Pool, where this oval islet was once a popular enclave for traders who built mansions and Western style churches. Owing to this beauty of Western classicism, the colonial buildings still remain beautifully restored and as a key protected relic of the state.
