In Frankfurt, you’ll see the city’s two great churches – the Cathedral and St. Paul’s Church. You’ll explore historic Römer Square and see the famous Rathaus, before going on to Sachsenhausen. Founded as Frankfurt's bridgehead in the 12th century, Sachsenhausen is now known for its vibrant nightlife.
Then leave the city and head for the romantic landscapes of the Middle Rhine Valley. With its picturesque castles, charming villages and neat vineyards, this area has inspired generations of artists, writers and musicians.
You can view this fairytale scenery from the land before taking to the river to enjoy a delightful cruise in a Rhine steamer.
A wine tasting session, in which you can enjoy the delicious wines of the region, is also included. Your trip ends with a romantic dinner in a beautiful riverside restaurant.
To join the Frankfurt City Tour & Rhine Dinner Cruise with Wine Tasting you should make your way to the tour office at Wiesenhüttenstr. 39, 60329 Frankfurt. (Hotel pick up service is available for Frankfurt Hotels - payable direct at approx euro 5.00 per person.) On this combo tour you spend about 2 hours sightseeing in Frankfurt and 5 ¼ hours in the Rhine Valley
The fun begins when you board an open-top bus for your Frankfurt City Tour. You will see Frankfurt’s two famous churches – the Cathedral and St. Paul’s church. St. Paul’s Church is a historic monument with great political symbolism because it was the seat of the first democratically elected Parliament in 1848.
The tour will stop twice – at Römer Square and in old Sachsenhausen. At these stops you will get off the bus accompanied by the guide. Römer Square is the historic heart of Frankfurt, built on Roman settlements dating from the 1st century. The area now supports a complex of nine houses that form the Frankfurt City Hall (Rathaus). The Römer was partially destroyed in World War II and later rebuilt.
Sachsenhausen, on the south bank of the Main River, was founded as Frankfurt's bridgehead in the 12th century. Today it is known for its vibrant nightlife, sporting over two dozen bars, taverns and restaurants. One of the landmarks of Sachsenhausen is the Goetheturm, the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a German writer, artist, and politician. Another attraction is the Museum Embankment (Museumsufer), which has some of Germany's best-known museums.
You’ll next board a coach to visit the most beautiful part of the great Rhine Valley – the Middle Rhine. This area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its natural beauty and historic importance.
In its middle section, the Rhine runs through a spectacular gorge. Rich agriculture and a booming water-borne trade made the area wealthy and great castles were built on crags to protect the trade route.
The glorious landscape has been celebrated by many poets and artists. It inspired Heinrich Heine to write his poem “Lorelei”, and Wagner used this stretch of the river as the setting for his opera “Götterdämmerung”.
Enjoy a scenic boat trip on a Rhine steamer and a wine-tasting session before relaxing over dinner in a beautiful waterside restaurant. The set meal is German roast chicken with French fries and a mixed salad. A vegetarian option is available. Your guide will ask the group prior to arrival at the restaurant if they wish to have the regular dinner or the vegetarian dinner.
Your tour ends back at the starting point at Wiesenhüttenstr. 39. Hotel drop-off can be arranged for an extra charge (approx euro 5.00 per person).
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
Please have your printed voucher in hand to present to staff upon boarding.
A vegetarian option is available for dinner. The tour guide will ask the group prior to arrival to the restaurant if they wish to have the regular dinner or the vegetarian dinner.
However, if participants wish to eat something other than the set meal (regular or vegetarian) they can order a la carte. Orders a la carte have to be paid extra and cannot replace the set meal.
The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
In accordance with German law, a seat is provided for children of all ages.
