This delightful day tour combines the delights of Baden-Baden, Germany’s loveliest spa town, with the scenic beauty of the Black Forest and the romantic charm of Strasbourg.
Framed by wooded hills, Baden-Baden was the 19th century playground of royalty and aristocracy, who came to gamble in the famous Casino and luxuriate in the thermal baths. Today the town is as stylish as ever and you will see why it had such a powerful appeal for the rich and powerful of Europe.
See the Kurhaus resort, a Belle Epoque marvel of elegance with immaculate gardens and stylish boutiques along the colonnade. If time permits, visit the Casino that Marlene Dietrich once declared was “the most beautiful casino in the world”.
Your flexible tour gives you a number of choices: stay in Baden-Baden and either bliss out in the thermal baths or take your chance in the Casino; or continue with your guide to visit the Black Forest, Lake Mummelsee and Strasbourg.
To join the Baden-Baden, Strasbourg & Alsace Tour from Frankfurt you should make your way to the tour office at Wiesenhüttenstr. 39, 60329 Frankfurt. Hotel pick-up can be arranged for an extra charge (approx euro 5.00 per person).
The tour takes you along the motorway drive to Baden-Baden, one of Europe´s most beautiful health resorts and best preserved spas. The Kurhaus resort in Baden Baden still retains its Belle Epoque elegance. Built between 1821 and 1824, the Kurhaus has stylish banqueting rooms and suites. Today it comprises a spa resort, Casino, and conference complex.
If time allows, you will visit the Casino, the oldest and most beautiful in Germany, outside gambling hours (no dress code applies). It was in 1853 that a Parisian, Jacques Bénazet, persuaded the sleepy little Black Forest spa of Baden Baden to build gambling rooms to enliven its evenings. Kaiser Wilhelm I, his chancellor, Bismarck, the Russian novelist Dostoyevsky, the Aga Khan, and Marlene Dietrich all patronized the place.
After seeing the Casino, you have three options: continue the trip to the Black Forest and Strasbourg in France; stay at the Thermal Bath (additional charges); or gamble at the Casino. If you decide to stay at the Thermal Bath or Casino, you will be picked up by the guide at 1800h (6:00pm).
A visit to the Thermal Bath is a luxurious and thoroughly relaxing experience. Choose from the Roman-Irish Bath (Friedrichsbad) or the Baths of Caracalla (Caracalla Therme) and enjoy various combinations of indoor pools, outdoor pools, steamy pools, waterfalls, neck showers, Jacuzzis, hot springs, cold pools, lounge chairs, and saunas.
If you wish to gamble at the Casino, make sure you are complying with the dress code. Jeans are allowed, but must wear a jacket and tie, and sneakers are not permitted. The minimum stake is Euro 2; maximum, euro 7,000. Passports are necessary as proof of identity.
Those not staying at the Thermal Bath or Casino will take a round trip tour through the coniferous woods of the Black Forest up to the famous “Mummelsee” lake, a popular beauty spot. The Mummelsee is 17 meters (55 feet) deep and legend says its dark waters are inhabited by a water sprite or “Nix” and the “King of the Mummelsee”.
Afterwards you'll drive to Strasbourg in France, the heart of the Alsace, to visit a famous Gothic cathedral and see the picturesque old city. There will be time for shopping or a romantic boat ride on the canals (payable direct). (Make sure you have your passport as you will be crossing an international border).
A snack is provided for you to take at a suitable place and time during the day.
Your tour ends back at the starting point at Wiesenhüttenstr. 39. Hotel drop-off can be arranged for an extra charge (approx euro 5 per person).
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
You need to bring your passport as you will be crossing the border to France.
Smart jeans are allowed in the Casino, but gentlemen wishing to gamble must wear a jacket and tie, and sneakers are not permitted. The Casino opens for gambling at 1400h (2:00pm).
Please have your printed voucher in hand to present to staff upon boarding.
