  • Overview

Get up close and personal with Thailand’s vibrant ethnic diversity with this tour of the villages of Karen, Lisu and Lahu Hill Tribes that also treats you a mesmerising cruise on Mae Kok and a trip to the relaxing Pong Nam Lon Hot Springs.

A fantastic and rare opportunity to interact with the iconic Karen Hill Tribes, the largest ethnic minority group in Thailand, our first stop on this tour is evidently one of their villages. This subgroup, also known as Kayan Lawhi, are legendary for their women who wear stacks of brass rings they wear on their neck to create the illusion of making them look longer. The tradition is usually associated with their cultural identities of beauty with the idea that the more the rings one wear the prettier she is, although there are other stories around this intriguing custom, one of which refers the women’s similarity with dragons which is an significant element of their folklores. Interact with this charming community which has migrated from Tibet to learn about their riveting heritage and witness their exquisite weaving skills.

Our next stop is the village of the Lisu Hill Tribe, another ethnic minority who are originally from Tibet and migrated through southern Chinese provinces. The Lisu are known for their elaborate, colourful and ravishing dressing, especially during celebrations when the women deck themselves up in an array of tribal jewellery and are quite the sight to behold. We will then break for a delicious lunch at the beautiful town of Tha Ton, which is also a strategic point between Thailand and Myanmar.

Post lunch, we continue our journey to visit Phatai, home to the Lahu Hill Tribe. Also known as Muser, this is a community of exemplary hunters who are primarily from the Yunnan province in China. The fascinating Lahu can be distinctly recognised from their simple yet elegant clothing where the women wear black and red jackets along with white shirts while the men generally wear baggy blue or green pants. From here we will embark on a rejuvenating long-tailed boat ride on the serene waters of Mae Kok. Sit back and reminisce on your soulful encounters through the day as you feast your eyes on the breathtaking panorama along the river banks and also catch sight of the locals going about their daily lives.
Our cruise ends at the marvellous Hot Springs or Thapai of Pong Nam Lon, our last stop for the day, where you can soak up the stunning natural beauty of the region before we comfortably drop you back to your hotel!
