Nowhere else in India are you likely to find a bigger French population than in Pondicherry, a quaint hamlet that is home to the world famous Aurobindo Ashram. On this full day excursion from Chennai to Pondicherry, embark on a journey with your expert guide to traces the city’s origin to Saint Gasthya, the revered sage of the South.
Excavations near Pondicherry reveal that a Roman settlement existed here 2000 years ago. It was also the theatre of many battles between the British and the French and was the capital of French India before it attained its independence. Visit Auroville, an 'Ashram' for peace and harmonious living, founded by saint-philosopher Sir Aurobindo.
Escape the hustle and bustle of Chennai and enter the peaceful abode of Pondicherry. Walk around the area as the lush green trees form an avenue and the shade keeps you cool. Auroville is home to scores of volunteers from all over the globe who work towards creating a sustainable environment.
