Travel past forest-clad hillsides and villages with smiling, waving children. Look down into the clear waters to see shoals of river fish darting around. On the way, your jet-boat driver/guide will bring the landscape to life, introducing you to the rich culture of the people of Fiji and sharing the history, customs and legends of the area with you.

Stop at a village to experience a traditional Fijian welcome, sample traditional Fijian foods, and discover a timeless way of life in an unspoiled rural area.

To join the tour you should make your way to Tappoo’s store in Sigatoka town. Make sure you arrive by 0815h (08:15am).

You will be provided with your life jackets and a safety briefing by the jet boat captain and then it's time to board. As you begin your journey up the magnificent river you will hear about the history of the region, including its cannibal past! Children from villages along the river wave as you cruise past and the water is so clear you will be able to see fish and rocks on the river bottom.

When you reach your village destination, you are given a warm welcome by the villagers. Your jet-boat safari operator is careful to visit a different village every day, to minimize the impact of tourism on the village lifestyle in this remote part of the world.

You will then visit the village Chief's bure (house) or community hall and take part in a ‘Kava’ ceremony. Kava (Piper methysticum) is an age-old herbal drink that was the beverage of choice for the royal families of the South Pacific. The Kava welcome ceremony is one of the most important Fijian traditions.

You will then enjoy a tour of the village and a traditional Fijian lunch, including wonderful fresh tropical fruit.

Your village visit ends with traditional Fijian singing and dancing and it's time to board your jet boat again for the return trip.

During the trip there will be a chance to swim in the clear, river waters if you wish.

The tour ends back at Tappoo’s store.
