Overview

First we travel to the ancient city of Vladimir. Founded in 1108 by Prince Vladimir Monomakh, this pretty medieval city is famed for its splendid white monuments. Visit the Cathedral of San Demetrios (1194-1197), one of the finest examples of ancient Russian architecture and admire its intricately carved facade depicting the biblical story of King David. Explore the Assumption Cathedral dating back to 1160, and be awed by the 11th century frescoes painted by famous painter Andrei Rublev. Then take in the imposing Golden Gates built in the 12th century which once acted as the main entrance to the medieval city.

We continue of our way to Suzdal to get a glimpse of a more traditional way of life. The timeless charm and peace to be found in Suzdal have no rival and it is regarded by many to be the Jewel of the famous ‘Golden Ring’. Picturesque churches, monasteries and one-storied wooden houses decorated and painted in different colours along with dirt tracks and a pretty rolling landscape lend it an air untouched beauty. Visit the ancient Kremlin where the Cathedral of the Nativity and the Palace of Archpriest are situated. Investigate the beautiful medieval Monastery of St. Euthymius and contemplate the magical views from the walls. Then head down to the Museum of the Russian Wooden Architecture to learn about the history of these fine structures.
