Overview

History, heritage and a whole lotta fun comes together in this incredible tour of Kanchanaburi. Covering fascinating destinations like Nakhon Pathom, the renowned bridge over River Kwai, Death Railway and Sai Yok Noi waterfall - this day full of enthralling activities will keep your wanderlust completely satiated!

Your brush with the past begins right at our meeting point for the tour - the Thon Buri Railway station, which was a logistical centre for the Japanese occupying Thailand and was bombed by the Allies during World War II. From the station, we will head to one of the iconic monuments of Bangkok - the Phra Pathommachedi at Nakhon Pathom - and often debated to be the oldest stupa in Suvarnabhumi or the ancient South East Asia, dating back to the 3rd century BC. At over 120 m, Pathom Chedi is the tallest stupa in Thailand and is built in the Ceylonese style with an intriguing layout - seen from above, the entire temple complex looks like a gigantic Buddhist mandala representing the religion’s cosmology.

After a dose of spirituality, it’s time for a lesson in history as we reach Kanchanaburi and visit the infamous bridge over the River Kwai, formerly known as Mae Khlong. The train route is notoriously famous as the Death Railway, thanks to the innumerable air bombs which devastated the bridge over and over again. The devastation caused an enormous loss of life, killing thousands of prisoners of war and ravaging Japanese-occupied Bangkok. Relish the incredible antiquity flooding the hauntingly beautiful Kanchanaburi; trust us when we say it almost makes you expect a sudden bombing or a canon going off in the corner!

Once you have soaked in the infamy at Kanchanaburi bridge, you will have the rest of the day to get up close and personal with Mama Nature at the spectacular Sai Yok Noi waterfall. Wedged between the Sai Yok and Erawan National Parks, it is also known as Khao Pung Falls and is extremely popular with both tourists and local picnickers alike. Don’t forget to get your swimsuits for a refreshing dip in the lake at the feet of the falls! Out final pit stop for the day is the historic Death Railway in Kanchanaburi where you can thrill yourself learning about the dark yesteryears of this strategic railway line. Regale yourself with enchanting anecdotes of the World War II days and indulge in letting your inner explorer loose as you sink in to one of most intriguing places in modern history. It’s a day that will take you on an inspirational roller coaster through the innumerable nuances of human life and society - an experience we bet you wouldn’t want to miss!
