Take a tour of Bonorong Wildlife Conservation Centre, where the habitats of Australia’s native creatures are faithfully re-created.
Snakes slither and kangaroos hop pop up from their holes in this lush sanctuary.
You’ll also visit the Georgian-style village of Richmond, a throwback to Australia’s eerie beginnings as a penal colony for convicts and bushrangers.
You will be picked up from your Hobart hotel (subject to availability) or from Gray Line Terminal, Brooke Street Pier from where you will begin your Australian wildlife tour in an air-conditioned coach. There will be English narration on board the coach.
Head out of town on Hobart’s main thoroughfare, Brooker Highway, passing through North Hobart and New Town.
Arrive at Bonorong Wildlife Conservation Centre, which is scenically perched above the Brighton Valley.
Here you’ll find a wide array of animals native to Australia, including wombats and emus.
You can cuddle a koala if you arrive during feeding time, and free food pellets are provided if you want a kangaroo or wallabie to eat out of your hand.
Take a guided tour and learn about the habits and habitats of the many creatures in this wonderful Conservation Centre.
Your day concludes with a visit to Richmond, one of Australia’s most unique and historically significant sites.
This village transports you to Australia’s early days as a penal colony, with marvelously preserved Georgian architecture, cobblestone roads, and picturesque cottages.
Richmond is home to Australia’s oldest extant Catholic Church and the nation’s oldest bridge, which was built by convicts in the early 1800s.
Your tour will end where it began.
