Overview

After breakfast we'll visit the famous fairy-chimneys at Uc Guzeller, Devrent and Pasabag. Your guide will tell you how these weird rock formations were formed through a long process of erosion. Then after a drive along the valley of the Kizilirmak River we'll stop at Avanos, famous for its red earthenware pottery. You'll see the potters at work and can even try your own hand.

After lunch in a local restaurant we'll drive on to Goreme where we'll visit the Open Air Museum. Here you can wander around the remains of Byzantine churches cut into the living rock and admire the colourful mediaeval frescoes.

The tour ends with a visit to the stunning Uchisar Citadel, the highest point in the region. The views from the top are truly amazing. You'll have plenty of time to wander around the rabbit warren of underground chambers connected by tunnels, passageways and stairs. You'll see how certain areas could be sealed off by the inhabitants using giant millstonesl.
