Activity Overview

A fascinating yet poignant cultural site that preserves the relics of totalitarian ideology, the Memento Park in Budapest features statues that were removed after the fall of Hungarian Communism.

The park is a living lesson on dictatorship and democracy depicted through 42 real communist-era propaganda statues scattered rather haphazardly around the park. You will come across towering statures of Communist superstars like Stalin, Lenin, Marx and Engels.

At Memento Park, you will also watch a short film - The Life of an Agent, which documents the brutal tactics used by communist-era spies and police using original footage.

End your visit with a photo-op with the iconic Trabant car which has become symbolic of the struggles of communist manufacturing due to its total lack of tachometer, headlights, indicators, fuel gauge, rear seat belts, or external fuel door.
