  • Overview & Itinerary

Learn about authentic flavours of Hungary.

Warm your palate with a steaming hot bowl of Hungarian Gulyas soup, the famous dish of Budapest on this gastronomic tour. Enjoy some wine sampling as well.

Learn about the ingredients that go into the preparation of traditional Hungarian delicacies on a visit to the local food market.

This tour is a must for all lovers of good food.

This food and wine tour begins from inside of the main entrance to the Central Market Hall. You will be met by an English-speaking guide who will accompany you on this tour.

We will begin by getting acquainted with Hungarian cuisine through the great variety of ingredients (which are mostly local and seasonal) on display. We will discuss the history of the building, the culture of eating and drinking in Hungary, and the everyday cooking and eating habits. After tasting a few carefully selected goodies at the market, we will head out to the surrounding neighbourhood and visit a few more places (which include, depending on the day: a spice shop, a kosher bakery, a coffee house, a candy manufacturer, or an artisan chocolate shop).

Learn why Hungarian paprika is so special and how Hungarian cooks use it, and how it is produced. Also taste the paprika made by Hungary's leading artisanal paprika manufacturer as well.

Lunch is served at a traditional butcher shop, where we will sample a few traditional Hungarian dishes. No day in Budapest is complete without dessert, so we will also visit a traditional patisserie to taste a few cakes. The tour will end with a tasting of three quintessential Hungarian wines. During the tasting your guide will introduce you to the Hungarian wine regions, varieties and styles. This tour will give you a true, unique taste of the traditional side of Hungarian cuisine, as well as the modern artisan producers and specialty food shops of the area.

We try our very best to cater for dietary requirements but due to local food customs we cannot guarantee that this will be possible in all cases. Options for vegetarians, guests with allergies and religious dietary restrictions may be very limited.

Tour ends at the wine bar or cellar just a short walk from the Central Market Hall.
